Green Time

A great article. This could be a fantastic jobs program like the WPA projects of the 1930s. Wind and solar can make a difference!

Blogger's Guilt

I guess I start to feel guilty when I don't write anything. Been having great fun playing with MS Excel add-ins and SQL. Still reading a dense text on decision theory. Well, that's it for moi!

Virtual DVR

Read a fascinating article in NY Times today about a court case that involves cable companies' development of virtual DVRs . We all know what that means - skipping commericals and eventual authentic "movies on demand."

Tech Page at NY Times

This is one of my favorite sites. Every day I am amazed at the new products and services being developed. The ongoing story of Yahoo and its founder and Microsoft and Ichan etc will end up (I think) as a classic business case at HBS. I thank the NY Times for keeping me informed.

Yahoo grew at "only" 6% last quarter while Google grew at 39%. So called "analysts" (I think the syllable "anal" is the key idea here) contend that the difference in growth rates denotes a crisis at Yahoo. This is yet another example of absurd expectations - expectations rooted in no sense of reality.

When will the government - mainly the SEC - certify analysts (just like traders and brokers are licensed) if analysts can wield so much influence?

Monty Hall Problem

I have been surfing the many sites that deal with this phenomenon. Amazing how counter intuitive pure logic can be.

The Black Swan

Been doing some hard core studies on probability theory here of late. Here is a great book that helps put the current credit crisis in persepctive.

I strongly recommend this book!

Yankee Stadium

Sad, sad, sad. The only reason to tear it down is money. I think it is a tragedy. Certainly Yankee management will tell you they MUST have a new stadium but, this is a sports temple!

This is one new thing that is not an improvement.

Hancock

What a great movie. It has incredible special effects yet has a plot with twists and turns that keep you guessing. Will Smith has done it again, creating a sympathetic "everyman" movie persona ala classic movie stars.

The movie left me wondering, "How would I cope if I had superhuman powers?"

The movie has a feeling very much like "Superman Returns." It is a bit of a critique of our social angst that is anti-hero and a bit spoiled.
